When you cross the state line...

...you're officially on vacation. And at approximately 2:30 pm , just over an hour behind schedule, we left Indiana, crossed over into Ohio, jogged back through a smidge of Indiana and then headed south into Kentucky.

We made a pit stop in London, Kentucky, to drop Grandma Dotty at Aunt Susie's house and finally made it to our hotel in Knoxville around 8 pm.

Finally caught up with our friends on the road...

For the kids, vacation begins with cable and take-out. They were starving by the time we finally got dinner...even poor little Caroline was begging for food, and she's the most patient of the bunch when she's hungry. I'd packed the obligatory road trip food, but we were all ready for some real food, in the form of Taco Bell and Cracker Barrel take-out.

Don't judge...
see the Planter's bars in the background there?

It's been a long day. A great day, but a loooong day. We are more than ready to roll into Hilton Head tomorrow afternoon. I can't wait for that moment when we roll down the windows and smell the ocean air. Or that moment when we drive over the bridge. That's when the real fun begins. But I do love the anticipation. I've been waiting for this for a long time. It's been seven years since we last visited. And ten since we vacationed with our dear friends there. Ten years. Do you know how much kids change in ten years? I don't even want to think how much I've changed. At least on the outside.
